READING &WRITING WINTER WORK
By the beginning of the second semester, you are required to have completed Units 5 and 6 in your course book. You will find the answers to the units in the folder on Moodle, along with the tests and answers for each unit. Please ensure that you also do the work in the online book up to Unit 6. I will check your progress at the end of February.
I suggest that you also use the winter break to do some extra reading practice. Browse the Guardian website’s Book page and also the Long Read page. Some of the Long Reads are actually audio podcasts accompanied by the text version so you can practice both your listening and reading skills. You should also try to keep abreast of current affairs using the links on the International page.
The BBC website will also give you an insight into current affairs and another recommendation is the Aljazeera website. Again, you will find current affairs but also a wide range of documentaries. Lastly, the online version of Time magazine contains articles on a variety of subjects. It doesn’t really matter what you read as long as you try to cultivate the habit of reading something every day.
Enjoy the break but make a regular commitment to consolidating your reading skills!
