This section is dedicated to the Grammar Test.
The Grammar Test is an obligatory component of Lingua Inglese 1 and must be passed by September 2024 in order to proceed to the second year course, Lingua Inglese 2. This means you will not be able to register (verbalizzare) Lingua Inglese 1 if you have not passed the Grammar Test.
There are three separate parts to the test
Question 1 (12 items, worth 1 mark each) is a conversation between two people, where gaps have to be filled from the four possible answers provided: as A, B, C or D.
Question 2 (12 items, worth 2 marks each) is a transformation exercise, where students are asked to change a sentence grammatically without changing the meaning of the sentence. Students must include a given keyword in their answer, which must be within a six-word limit.
Question 3 (14 items, worth 1 mark each) is a series of unrelated sentences which test students' knowledge of vocabulary. Gaps have to be filled from the four possible answers provided: as A, B, C or D.
The test lasts for 35 minutes.
There are three test sessions: one in January, one in June and one in September. To help students evaluate their level of English, students will sit a mock Grammar Test, which is an actual past paper, in lesson 1 of your TEXTS course. Those students who get a result of 60% or higher will be admitted to the first test session in January 2023. Students who are awarded a mark under 60% will be advised to sit the test in June. A very low mark (under 40%) indicates that a student may well have difficulty passing the Grammar Test at the end of the academic year and considerable personal study needs to be undertaken in order to do so.
The file below contains a full practice Test, which indicates the task types used in the Grammar Test and also indicates the level at which the test is pitched. When you have completed the test, check your answers in the accompanying Answers file and evaluate your mark:
PASS = above 60%
NARROW FAIL = 40% - 58%
FAIL = below 40%.
